How is a Gastroscopy Performed?
A gastroscopy (or upper endoscopy) involves using a thin, flexible tube with a camera (an endoscope) to view the inside of your esophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine (duodenum). You will typically receive sedation to ensure your comfort.
The endoscope is gently guided through your mouth and down into your digestive tract. During the procedure, the doctor can carefully examine the lining, or perform minor interventions if necessary.
Importance Preparation Notes:
- Fasting: Do not consume any food after midnight the night before your screening (only plain water is permitted).
- Medication: Refrain from taking antithrombotic medications (blood thinners) for 3-7 days prior to your screening. Please consult with your prescribing doctor regarding the specific dosage and type of medication.
